Internship/Research Areas

KAUST offers a diverse range of research internship opportunities across its three academic divisions:

  • Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE)
    Areas include synthetic biology, marine science, plant science, bioengineering, and protein design.

  • Computer, Electrical, and Mathematical Science and Engineering (CEMSE)
    Projects cover topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, 6G systems, antenna design, and RF engineering.

  • Physical Science and Engineering (PSE)
    Opportunities exist in fields like materials science, energy resources, chemical engineering, and applied physics.

There are about 137 projects to choose from. Interns are matched with projects led by world-renowned faculty, working in cutting-edge labs to tackle real-world challenges.

  • Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s (3rd year or above) or master’s program

  • A minimum GPA of 3.5 out of 4.0

  • English language proficiency may be required upon application evaluation

  • Students from all nationalities are eligible

  • KAUST students, alumni, or current PhD candidates are not eligible

  • Monthly stipend of USD $1000

  • Private housing (bedroom and bathroom)

  • Round-trip airfare

  • Visa support

  • Access to KAUST’s core research labs and facilities

  • Cultural and social activities

  • Official transcripts in English

  • A letter of recommendation from a faculty member

  • Statement of purpose

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Copy of valid passport (minimum 6 months validity)

  5. Await shortlisting and interview (if applicable)

  6. Receive an offer and start the visa and travel process

Applications are accepted year-round, making this one of the most flexible internships globally. Students can choose start and end dates based on their academic calendars.
